:WUMPSCUT:
Interview
Hi
Rudy. Your started promotion for your new album Cannibal Anthem. How are you
satisfied so far with the
response?
-
Yes, of course: the fans are delighted about the new :W: stuff, the critics
will be as well - I'm sure about that.
Why did you decide to make a release that with 100% German lyrics?
- A fan of mine met me during on of last year's releaseparties and asked me to do something in German, again - so here we are .....
Illustrations
for new album and also the title isabout cannibalism. Why did you choose this
particular
theme to be represented by your new album?
- :W: simply happens, so the title selection does as well. I like the cannibal topic a lot, so it just was natural..
All
:W: production is you. Have you ever thought to collaborate with someone else
in production beside
guest vocals?
- Yes, very often, but this is a matter of time, first of all - running :W: is a fulltime job.
Lot
of bands on the scene have side project? What about Wumpscut's side project?
Ever had this kind of
idea to start something different?
- See above - if you can give me another 10 hours a day, it's our deal.
Wumpscut releases are always available in 2 to 3 different formats (DJ Dwarf, regular cd, limited 2CD) including special limited box set. Todays music business has serious problems with mp3 piracy. Is this investment with different releases paid off?
- No, this simply is demanded by the fans. :W: moves in a dimension in which you can allow different versions. For example, the boxset is the most wanted product for many, but others prefer to spend only 15 EUR for a standard CD.
What kind of music and bands can be found in your recent CD collection?
-
01 Natacha Atlas: Forever, 02 Isoleé: Logiciel, 03 Yendri: The Only Thing
That's Left, 04 Felix Laband: Dirty Nightgown, 05 Visit Venus: Space Nazis Must
Die (Rae & Christian Remix), 06 St. Germain: Montego Bay Spleen, 07
Yendri: Shinas, 08 Cerebral Apoplexy: Just Like Waves (:Tactoor: Remix), 09
Anthony Rother: 65 Millionen Jahre, 10 Generation Aldi: Bratislover, 11 Snoop
Dogg: Ups & Downs - hard to believe, isn't it ...t!
And DVD-s?
- Some classics - and hardly no Hollywood blockbusters!
As an artist and owner of an independent label, how much did burning of CD-s and mp3 piracy affect you?
- The whole scene suffers from these effects, but on the other side, you easily can separate the grain from the chaff - and :W: still is alive (of course) ....
What is your personal stand regarding illegal mp3 distribution?
- Of course we all feel the negative impacts, but on the other hand you can get your name widespread thru this - in SOME cases, you know. The mp3 format will stay on, castrated ones are no solution.
How much fan mail and fan e-mails do you get?
- M-A-N-Y - hardly no paper, anymore.
How
do you see today's global underground electronic music and German scene? Where
is it going in your
opinion?
- I like many electronic acts that are NOT part of the alternative scene (see above) - EBM and scene stuff in a whole does not change very fast/too slow for me.
What about DJ-ing and possible Wumpscut live performance? Is there a chance for this both to happen?
- No.
You have restarted your label Mental Ulcer Forges. Why it was on hold in the first place?
- No, it was not, but I got TOO many good offers to let Mental Ulcer Forges sleep longer: Recently Deceased offered a demo during 2004 already, Cerebral Apoplexy did some very well-crafted instrumentals, and Yendri is my passion since I heard it for the first time.
Your :W: logo has been taken from one of the Alien movies?
- Really? Cannot remember ...
Did you had any legal problems with the makers of Alien movies, for using this sign (logo)?
- I don't see much similarity between the logos - meanwhile.
Do you have additional work, except music?
- In the meantime: no.
What is your calling, profession?
- I'm much too modest to call me a professional.
Was Leaether Strip your first influence to start :W:?
- ONE of many, yes.
What do you like more: sausages with sweet mustard or doner kebab?
- You mean because of me being Bavarian? Ha! No meat in 2006, guys.
Thank you very much for your time to do interview for Elektronski Zvuk and I wish you lot of success with new album.
- NO problem at all!
